Press Music Monthly http://www.musicmonthly.com December 2003 Dear Readers by Susie Mudd NEW TO ME: One of my favorite people in this business, Rich Heinecke, called me one afternoon to tell me about this group that has re-established his love for music and this business we are in. He said he was getting really bored with it all when someone walked into his house and said to him, "Listen to this." He put the CD on and instantly was smitten. BROCK is the name and they are a "rapping, singing, guitar slinging, funk-dropping, world-rocking" group who is destined to make big noise in the region and beyond. This three-piece band includes Brock, of course, he is joined by Jon Laine on drums and Hamilton Hayes on bass. They blend hip hop, rock, blues, soul, and he's got one incredible stage persona. Plus, the sound he gets from his guitar is awesome. It doesn't matter what kind of music you like (I really dislike rap), but this is so different you have no choice but to be impressed. Normally, I never would have gone straight to press with a band, but because it was Rich talking, I listened. I am glad I did. When you hear what sounds like the same thing over and over, and then here something different, it is a pleasant surprise. And this surely was. Right now, they are in the beginning stages of getting their name out there. I am not sure if they have live dates scheduled at this time, but they have played a bunch of live dates already, and everyone who hears them likes what they hear..."
